Q&A with Round She Goes Markets

Huge thanks to Emma from the awesome Round She Goes Preloved Fashion Markets for taking time out to tell us a bit about her op shopping pastime.

If you’re a fan of vintage, designer and supporting recycled fashions this is one market not to miss.  There are several locations and markets are held through the year, Facebook and website info below.

  1. What has been your most treasured op shop find and why?

My weakness in life is designer handbags, especially ones that I get without paying RRP! The first one I ever found in an op shop was a 1970s Christian Dior in perfect condition. Granted, it was $50 but worth every cent. I love it and will never part with it.

  1. Do you have any op shop tips?

If you frequent op shops, my tip would be to keep notes. I have a copy of the Victorian Op Shop Guide and I keep it in the car. If I have an appointment somewhere, I always give it a cheeky glace in case there is an op shop nearby. I make notes about what I found there in the book or if they don’t tend to have things that I like.

  1. Do you have a favourite op shop?

My favourite op shop/s are any in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. This is where I grew up and so I love going back and seeing familiar stuff. When I’m there, I’m constantly saying things like, ‘We used to have that table! My mum had this exact teapot! Nostalgia and bargains, you can’t beat it.

  1. What department do you head for first in an op shop?

I tend to go for different departments depending on what I’m interested in or collecting at that time. My biggest weakness is books.

  1. Who is your favourite person to take op shopping?

My husband Lee. He is as into op shopping as me but he’s into collecting music. It’s great, we get to compare finds and get excited about our treasures together.
