What is the Op Shop Book Project?
It’s a project that releases new and preloved books into the wild and tracks their secondhand journeys.
I’ve been curious for a while now thinking about how my donations make an ongoing positive impact to the people that buy them and to the charities or individuals that might sell them again and again and again.
The Op Shop Book Project is a small experiment to gain some insights into seeing how circular our circular economy might be?
I hope find out a few things
- Do we know how many times books have the potential to be shared?
- Do we know how much revenue they have the potential to eject into the secondhand economy?
- Do we know how far they can travel?
It’s really tricky to gauge this with so many items but I thought books could be a practical option offering some interesting data into our recycling habits.
How Does The Op Shop Book Project Work?
Each book will have a label placed within it giving details about the project directing them here to log some information.
I’ll try to include books that
- Cover topics relevant to the I Love To Op Shop ethos including sustainability, recycling, vintage, slow living, environmentalism etc
- I’d also like to spotlight Australian / Indigenous authors
- I’ll also pick some inspiring, motivating, and feel good books (both fiction and nonfiction).
- Because I’m a low level rebel there’s a high chance I’ll also include some books that just have pretty covers so I’ll totally be judging it based on its appearance hahaha
I’ll donate some books locally around Melbourne but I’ll also offer some out to followers of I Love To Op Shop around Australia.
I hope you have fun following along at home.
