Wear for Success Sale
The Wear for Success Sale is on again soon and I got in touch with Melissa and asked her to tell us a little about what Wear for Success do.
We’re a not for profit based in South Melbourne, run by about 100 volunteers and 1 paid employee.
We basically provide free work clothing for people in difficult personal circumstances who are seeking work but just don’t have clothing for interviews. Most are also lacking the confidence they need to survive an interview process. And we all know that appearances do matter, so looking the part is a critical step in finding a job.
Our clients come from all backgrounds; single mums, older guys made redundant, young refugees and so on. All are referred to us and our service is free. All leave with a new work outfit styled to suit them and their job search. And I’m proud to say most leave with a spring in their step and smile on their face.
We receive clothes from all sorts of amazing private and corporate donors. As well as items from the general public we get whole wardrobes of barely worn clothes from major Tv studios, clear outs of wardrobes from generous socialites and excess stock from well known manufacturers. We are immensely grateful for this.
Sometimes we have too much of something or stuff that is just not suitable for interviews ( we had a super wedding dress last year!). So we hold regular sales of excess stock like the one next week.
Buyers can expect anything from Zara to Cue to major designers. All in great condition and at bargain prices. Lots of items are 3 for $10 and other items not much more. We actually get some stylists from Tv shows popping in cause they know it’s great for picking up interesting items.
